SBS 2025 Winter Instrumental Music Concert

St. Bernard School was alive with the sound of music as students, families, and staff gathered in the gym on Monday, January 13, for the highly anticipated instrumental music concert. Under the skilled direction of our band teacher, Ms. Brenda Winkler, students in grades 4-8 showcased their musical talents, leaving the audience inspired and proud.

The concert featured performances from both the beginning band and concert band, offering a delightful variety of music that highlighted the hard work and dedication of our young musicians. A standout moment of the evening was the debut of our first-ever symphony, a milestone that added an extra layer of excitement and pride to the event.

Adding to the evening’s significance, GRACE President Kim Desotell was in attendance, joining the many proud parents and family members who filled the gym to cheer on the students. The atmosphere was electric with applause and encouragement as the students’ hours of practice came to fruition in a performance to remember.

Several students also stepped into the spotlight with solos, showcasing their individual talents and bravery. These performances added a personal touch to the evening, allowing the audience to appreciate the unique skills and artistry of each soloist.

The instrumental music concert was a beautiful reminder of the joy and enrichment that music brings to our school community. Ms. Winkler’s leadership and the students’ commitment to their craft were evident throughout the evening, and we are grateful for the support of our families who made the event even more memorable.

Congratulations to all the students who participated in this remarkable evening. Your hard work and passion for music are truly inspiring!

UWGB Education Day Recap

On Wednesday, December 18, students in grades K-8 from St. Bernard School had the exciting opportunity to attend the UWGB Men’s Basketball Education Day game at the Resch Center. This annual tradition, now in its second year for our school, has quickly become a favorite field trip for many students. It was the perfect way to cap off the last week of school before Christmas break, blending education and fun in a high-energy atmosphere.

The Resch Center buzzed with excitement as students filled the seats, ready to cheer on the Phoenix. For many, it was their first time attending a live college basketball game, and they didn’t hold back their enthusiasm. Throughout the game, the students danced to upbeat songs played over the sound system and joined in the crowd’s cheers to support the players on the court. The energy was infectious, and the smiles on their faces showed just how much they were enjoying the experience.

Events like the Education Day game provide students with a unique opportunity to connect with their community and experience the thrill of collegiate athletics. It’s more than just a game; it’s a chance to learn about teamwork, perseverance, and school spirit in an engaging and memorable way.

As we look back on this year’s trip, we’re grateful for the moments of joy and camaraderie it brought to our students. Thank you to UWGB and the Resch Center for hosting such a fantastic event. We’re already looking forward to next year’s Education Day game and the memories it will create for our students!

A Heartwarming “Home for Christmas” Concert at St. Bernard School

This year’s Christmas Concert at St. Bernard School was nothing short of magical. The theme, “Home for Christmas,” beautifully captured the warmth and joy of the season. The church was packed with families and friends, all gathered to celebrate together as our students performed a variety of musical pieces.

The evening began with a touching and symbolic moment as our choir students processed into the church, each holding a candle and singing the powerful song “Go Light Your World.” This peaceful and inspiring opening set the tone for the rest of the evening. Following their procession, the 5th-grade and middle school choir took the stage to perform a beautiful medley of “Amazing Grace” and “O Christmas Tree.” Their harmonies were moving and filled the room with the spirit of Christmas.

Next, the 4th-grade recorder ensemble delighted the audience with a lively rendition of “March” from The Nutcracker, followed by the 2nd-grade bell choir, who added a peaceful and reflective note with their performance of “O Little Town of Bethlehem.” The 1st graders then brought energy and fun to the stage with their plate dance, spreading joy and excitement to all who watched.

Throughout the evening, the students sang familiar and beloved holiday songs that warmed everyone’s hearts. The students sang classic tunes like “Let it Snow” and “Please Come Home for Christmas,” bringing a touch of nostalgic cheer to the celebration. The preschool students followed, delighting the audience with their own sweet rendition of “There is a Little House.”

As the evening drew to a close, all the performers came together to sing “Shine, Jesus, Shine” and “Feliz Navidad.” The combined voices of students from every grade filled the church with an overwhelming sense of unity and celebration, reminding everyone of the true spirit of Christmas.

The concert’s bilingual introductions, offered in both English and Spanish, highlighted the diversity and inclusivity of our school community. It was a beautiful evening spent together, filled with music, joy, and love, as we celebrated the holiday season and the gift of being “Home for Christmas.”

Thank you to all the students, teachers, and families who helped make this night so special. It was a heartwarming experience that will be cherished for years to come.

SBS Participates in the Catholic Bonding Exchange Program

At St. Bernard School, we believe that education extends beyond the classroom and into life-changing experiences. This year, we were thrilled to welcome Ana Sofia, an 8th-grade student from Guatemala, as part of the Catholic Bonding Exchange program. Ana Sofia stayed with the Fredrick family for eight wonderful weeks, forming memories and relationships that will last a lifetime.

The Fredrick family embraced Ana Sofia as one of their own, and together they embarked on countless adventures. One of the highlights of her visit was traveling to Chicago, where they explored the city’s famous landmarks and vibrant culture. Another unforgettable experience was visiting Lambeau Field—a must-see destination here in Green Bay. She also enjoyed visits to many other places including Blaser’s Acres to see stunning sunflower fields and the enchanting Christmas lights at the Botanical Gardens.

Ana Sofia also enjoyed her time here at St. Bernard. She fully immersed herself in her classes, learning new concepts, making friends, and becoming part of our school family. It was heartwarming to see the joy she brought to the classroom, as well as the connections she made with her teachers and fellow students.

The Catholic Bonding Exchange program is a wonderful opportunity for students to learn, grow, and experience life in a different part of the world. For the Fredrick family and all of us at St. Bernard, Ana Sofia’s visit was a beautiful reminder of the value of cultural exchange and hospitality.

If you would like to learn more about the Catholic Bonding Exchange program and the incredible experiences it offers, we encourage you to visit their website for more information. This is just one of the many opportunities we are proud to offer here at St. Bernard School, where we strive to connect faith, community, and learning.

We are grateful to Ana Sofia, the Fredrick family, and Catholic Bonding for making this experience so special. We look forward to many more enriching exchanges in the years to come!

Celebrating Team Spirit at Our Fall Sports Pep Rally!

At St. Bernard School, school spirit is always in the air, and our recent fall sports pep rally took it to the next level! Entirely planned and executed by our amazing Student Council, the event was a vibrant celebration of teamwork, sportsmanship, and fun.

The rally kicked off with a heartfelt recognition of our student-athletes. Teams for volleyball, soccer, and cross country were called up one by one, with each athlete’s name announced to cheers from their classmates. It was inspiring to see the pride on their faces as they joined their teams front and center.

After honoring our athletes, the energy soared with an exciting homeroom vs. homeroom game. Students worked together to land beach balls into three different laundry baskets—an entertaining challenge that tested their coordination, strategy, and teamwork. The competition was fierce but friendly, with the winning homerooms scoring coveted NUT cards and candy.

Of course, no pep rally at St. Bernard would be complete without dancing! Mr. Gusloff took charge, leading the students in a variety of dance songs that had everyone on their feet. From classics to the latest hits, the gym echoed with music, laughter, and joyful moves. To top it off, PBIS prizes were awarded to students and teachers, adding an extra layer of excitement to the event.

Our fall sports pep rally was a resounding success, bringing together athletes, students, and staff to celebrate the incredible community we share. A huge thank you to the Student Council for their hard work and creativity in planning such a memorable event.

We’re already looking forward to the next pep rally in a few months when we’ll honor our winter sports teams. Until then, let’s keep cheering each other on and showing that St. Bernard spirit!
